Live Labs 2 — Integrated Drainage Demonstration

Challenge

A chronically flooded access point onto the Transpennine Trail at Castletown Close — the adjacent ground had become standing water, and the path itself was unusable in wet weather. An existing drain was on site but was not capturing either catchment, and the environmentally sensitive woodland setting ruled out deep trenching or new pipework.

Solution

A 5m × 6m bed of Rosehill Drainage Mats was laid over the worst-flooded ground, replacing standing water with a permeable, trafficable surface. Stackers carry the collected water across to the existing drain, bridging the depth between mat level and drain invert. A fan of Grip Strip spurs captures surface water off the new asphalt path and routes it into the same drain. The modular, recycled-material build was installed quickly on site by DOWHIGH Limited with no deep trenching.

100% puddle-free at commissioning and again at post-commissioning review

Result

“The new Rosehill Group drainage system is doing exactly what it should — the pedestrian walkway is now completely puddle-free,” Live Labs 2 reported. A later review confirmed the gravel grid was still draining any residual water, with monitoring continuing over the coming months.
